The 2013 European Open IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship already knows its four black belt open class finalists.
The definition brings some great news and one bad news.
The male division will be left without a final match, once the two finalists are teammates.
Leonardo Nogueira and Bernardo Faria undoubtedly dominated the absolute this Saturday afternoon.
Bernardo had two matches on his way to the final.
First he faced Ronato Cardoso, tapped with an omoplata; then he imposed his game over Claudio Calasans Jr, securing the win by taking Calasans’ back right at the very end after also passing the opponent’s guard once.
Leonardo had to fight three times.
He first tapped Masahiro Iwasaki with a choke from the back, then he used a leg lock to get the submission over Bruno Mathias, and in the semifinal, another choke from the back to defeat Alexander Trans.
The female black belt open class had only seven athletes registered to compete.
Even so, the calibre of the competitors was such that it was guaranteed that we would have great fights, and we did.
The gold medal match will put old rivals Luanna Alzuguir and Michelle Nicolini on collision course.
Luanna was all submission in her two fights, first an choke from the back on Carolina De Lazzer and then a beautiful armlock from the guard on Marina Ribeiro.
Michelle had only one fight before the final and also got the tap. She stretched Polyana Lago’s arm in less than two minutes of match.
The adult black belt division comes back tomorrow with the weight divisions.
