Marcus Buchecha faced Alex Trans once again in 2014 at the ultra-heavy final


Buchecha didn’t panic and soon enough got to a better position

The Brazilian worked little by little Trans’ guard

He ended getting the choke from the back

Bruno Malfacine faced João Miyao in the roosterweight final

Miyao worked his berimbolo game since the get go

The match was non stop the whole time

Both athletes fought fiercely for each position

With the win, Malfacine reached the impressive mark of six world titles as a black belt

Gui Mendes and Paulo Miyao fought in the light-feather final

Former training partners, the two withheld nothing during the match

Foot locks by Miyao didn’t worry Guilherme much



Just like 2012, Rafael Mendes and Rubens Cobrinha fought for the featherweight title

Their match up was also important for the adult male teams title between Atos and Alliance

Again, the 50/50 guard was in use

Lucas Lepri faced JT Torres in the lightweight final

After a takedown, Lepri worked the pass

As much as he tried, JT was unable to defend Lepri’s passes

The fight ended with Lepri working a finish

Lepri’s win was important for Alliance’s run for the teams title

Leandro Lo faced Otavio Sousa in the middleweight final

It was a battle of sweeps, but Otavio had some tricks up his sleeve

The scoreboard marched two points by two points

Lo’s guard was irresistible

Otavio’s attacks were always dangerous

Sousa also had his sweeps ready to go

An all out war for top position was waged

Both risking it all for the third world title as a black belt

Otavio had the submission within his reach many times

Leandro had to work hard to escape each time

A brave Lo settled the final score with a powerful guard pass


Otavio fought on until the last seconds

A Hail Mary foot lock was also useless and Leandro snatched the gold medal

Barral and Braulio closed out the medium-heavyweight division

Andre Galvão and Felipe Neto fought for the heavyweight title

Preguiça got an early takedown to go ahead on the scoreboard

Galvão tied the game with a sweep right away

No foot was safe in the final

Preguiça worked the foot lock with all his strength

Galvão did not seem to care

The attacks earned Preguiça advantages

A last minute sweep gave Preguiça the lead

Felipe celebrated the title intensily

Such a young talent can make quite a lot of damage in the years to come

GB’s Preguiça victory also meant Alliance’s triumph in the male adult teams competition


The 2014 Worlds open class final was the sixth time Buchecha and Rodolfo fought each other

Training a lot of wrestling, Buchecha decided to stand and look for takedowns

A great judoka, Rodolfo also bet on the takedown to score first

The two finalists worked hard to put the other on the ground
