Day 1 of the 2015 Worlds is a wrap in Long Beach, California.
PSLPB Cicero Costha’s Gustavo Batista was the standout of the Thursday after winning both the medium-heavy and the open class division at blue belt.
With a style that resembles a lot the way Rodolfo Vieira fights, Batista put a lot of pressure on his opponents to pass guards and finish from the mount or back.
In the open class division, he did just that against Jonnathas Gracie da Silva at the semifinal and Jackson Rubens in the big final.
With this Thursday’s medals, Batista completed what is called the Jiu-Jitsu grand slam: he won both his weight division and the open class at the European, Pan, Brazilian Nationals and Worlds.
