The weekend was filled with great performances in the town of Barueri, São Paulo. The SP Jiu-Jitsu Open, held Sept. 17 and 18, saw gi and no-gi matches, and crowned well-known fighters from the international scene. Winning gold at their weight and the open class, Erberth Santos (Almeida JJ) and Andresa Correa (Alliance) dominated gi day, whereas Kitner Moura (Almeida JJ) and Karla Hipólito (Top Brother) had the same success on no-gi day.
The current world absolute runner-up, Erberth talked to Graciemag about his performance. “I’m very happy to have taken part in the tourney and with my results from both days. I was fortunate to conquer double gold in the gi, but it was not easy. All my fights I won either on points or advantages, which shows you the level of the competition. That is great for us athletes to stay motivated to train even more,” said he, who beat Guilherme Santos (Alliance) in the super-heavyweight final and Dimitrius Souza (Alliance) in the absolute final.
Alliance swept up the women’s section with Andresa Correa e Tayane Porfírio, who won their weight classes (heavy and super-heavy) and then closed it out in the open.
On no-gi day, it was time for Kitner Moura to achieve double gold. At ultra-heavyweight he faced and defeated Antonio Nascimento (GFTeam), and in the open he closed it out with his friend Erberth Santos. Karla Hipólito got double gold among women — after beating the super-heavyweight field, she outplayed Juliana Simões (Checkmat) for the absolute title.
