Besides a historical knockout seen in the main event, UFC 226, held in Las Vegas this weekend, had another great play on its main card — this time with BJJ taking center stage.
Former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis wasn’t having a great stretch in the UFC up until this Saturday, July 7th, when he stepped into the cage to take on Michael Chiesa, a strong ground fighter. Known for his striking, Pettis had to pull a fine submission out of his hat to secure an important win.
After landing a nice punch, Pettis seized the opportunity to end the bout. First he used a headlock, but Chiesa escaped. Then Pettis worked on the transition, set the triangle, improved the adjustment and, lastly, caught the arm for a successful armbar from the triangle. Click “play” below to check out his skills.
