Held last weekend in the capital of Santa Catarina, the IBJJF’s Floripa Open had no shortage of talent on display, but one man stood tall as the big winner by the end.
Alliance’s Fernando Reis secured double gold with wins in the heavyweight and absolute divisions.
The heavyweight final saw him defeat Simonelli Emiliano, but it was in the absolute final that Fernando truly shone.
For the absolute title, Fernando was tasked with beating Fellipe Andrew (Zenith), who had claimed the super-heavyweight title earlier. Fernando worked firmly from his half-guard and, seeing some space, slid to the back and applied the winning choke.
