Scheduled to take place on October 19th, the next BJJ Stars event is full of great matches. As well as the GP featuring eight of the best athletes in activity, five other fights are likely to give the fans what they want. The event can be watched via pay-per-view at bjjstars.tv, or in person at the Hebraica gymnasium in Sao Paulo.
We at Graciemag are excited too, so we decided to talk about five bouts we really want to see. Here they are.
* Leandro Lo vs Nicholas Meregali
This had to be our most anticipated fight. Meregali and Lo, who make up one of the great rivalries of current BJJ, are old acquaintances from the biggest tournaments of the world. After winning twice at the 2017 Pan, Lo wound up beaten by young Nicholas at the Worlds (2-0) and then again at BJJ Stars Black Belt Edition 1 (4-0). They are both in the eight-man, no-weight-limit GP, and a new duel between them is bound to be amazing.
* Marco Barbosa vs Juquinha Brites
A very active veteran, Marco Barbosinha has had great campaigns in 2019, namely at the Brazilian Nationals and Master Worlds. Now, at Black Belt Edition 2, he will meet an also much-decorated Adimilson “Juquinha” Brites, one of the strongest master-age athletes from Gracie Humaitá. Lots of technique and fine details are to be expected.
* Mahamed Aly vs Victor Hugo
Another duel that promises to set BJJ Stars on fire may happen between Aly and Victor. Although young, Mahamed is already among the biggest names in worldwide BJJ. After winning everything in the brown belt and arriving in the black belt beating big names, Mahamed secured a world title and has been going through a great phase. Victor was also brilliant in the colored belts, unsurprisingly dominated at brown, and is arriving in the black belt with the status of a great promise for the future.
* Aninha Schmitt vs Bia Basílio
In a callback to the featherweight final from this year’s Worlds, Ana Schmitt and Bia Basílio will be face to face again, now in a BJJ Stars superfight. The hard-fought match from the Worlds, which saw Ana claim gold by decision, convinced Stars they needed to see the two go at it again. Expect lots of action.
* Yves Carbinatti vs André Trezza
The opening match of Black Belt Edition 2 will have some added flavor for the fans of our versatile, gentle art. The duel between Yves and André will be in adapted jiu-jitsu, given that they are both in wheelchairs. Yves, a longtime competitor, became councilman in Sao Paulo, where in 2015 he kicked off the ADCC Worlds. André, a brown-belt, is a collector of parajiu-jitsu titles. So we’re expecting some fireworks.
It’s worth noting that all the thrills of the Oct. 19 BJJ Stars event will be livestreamed exclusively at bjjstars.tv on pay-per-view. The package is currently available for purchase at a discount. Those in a position to go to Hebraica Club can find tickets on the same website.
