In an interview on Brazil’s Sportv network, rap star Snoop declared his love for MMA and made a surprising announcement: he wants to put on a gi and learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
“MMA is incredible. I’ve been watching it since the beginning, since UFC 1. Royce Gracie’s my biggest idol. You can see how boxing stopped in time, the champions don’t face each other… That’s not how it is in MMA, where everyone fights each other. Look at Anderson Silva, he’ll fight anybody. He’s the man,” Snoop told reporter Ana Hissa.
The rapper did a concert in Rio de Janeiro last Wednesday and will sing in São Paulo on Saturday, at the same time as Cain Velasquez’s title defense against Junior Cigano. Will he be rooting for the American champion or his Brazilian challenger? He was quick to reply.
“I could sit on the fence… But since I’m here in Brazil, I’ll be going for Cigano!” he said, adding that he’ll watch the fight.
If the show gets delayed, don’t come knocking; the rap whiz will be busy watching the UFC in his dressing room.
