This weekend begins the worldwide race to secure all-expenses-paid trips to compete in Abu Dhabi, as the first WPJJC tryout event is about to kick off in Natal this Saturday.
The event, promoted in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte by our GMA Fabio Holanda, is produced by the same group that will be running the upcoming trials in Amazonas State, Brazil, and Montreal, Canada.
And this first tryout already looks promising. Set to gather at the Nélio Dias gymnasium in Natal City are aces the likes of Leandro Lo, Léo Leite, João Gabriel, Kitner Rocha, Nivaldo Oliveira, Tarcisio Jardim, Isaque Paiva and Paulo Miyao, among others already signed up for the competition.
From the Brazilian Northeast, the region where the event is being held, the names looking to set the mats alight are Bruno Novaes, Caião Alencar, Helio Mourão, Hugo Britto, William Martins, Cassio Jacaré, Junior Show, Herico Hesley, Bruno Ramos, Thiago Barreto and others.
Who do you see standing with their hand raised once the dust settles? Don’t miss coverage of the event, here on the preferred website for Jiu-Jitsu competitors and practitioners.
To get a taste of what’s to come, GRACIEMAG.com is posting the following video of a sweep with the Leandro Lo seal of approval. The Cícero Costha student won the absolute division at the 2011 WPJJC Trials in Natal.
From de la Riva guard, he breaks his opponent’s posture with a tug on the collar, puts a foot to the ground and then hoists his opponent up with the help of the other hook. With a spin and shin on the thigh, he distances his opponent and posts with his hand, completing the sweep.
