The most dreaded chub in the UFC, Roy Nelson will face off against Junior Cigano at UFC 117 this coming August 7. The fight is one of six pitting an American against a Brazilian in the octagon.
Winner of the tenth season of the “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show, Nelson breaks the mould when it comes to what MMA fighters look like these days. The athlete maintains a rotund belly, like the Tank Abotts and Scott Ferrosos of old.
Nevertheless, Roy’s gut serves him well in one of his strongest moves, which he used to effect during the TUF 10 season. In his fight with Kimbo Slice on the TV program, Nelson manages to immobilize his opponent and trap his arm in a crucifix. From there, to greater effect than the punches he threw, as he himself has admitted, he smothers his opponent with his jelly belly. Nelson does so on two opportunities before ending the bout.
If you, like Nelson, sport an ample gut, learn the famous maneuver in the video below, and try it for yourself. If you sport washboard abs, check it out anyways for curiosity’s sake.
