After winning her weight group and the absolute division at the Jiu-Jitsu Worlds as a purple belt, and repeating the feat at the European Championship this year, already facing black belts, Beatriz Mesquita proved once again she is in great shape. In the under 63kg weight group of the World Pro Jiu-Jitsu Cup tryouts in Gramado the fighter beat experienced opponents like Michelle Nicolini and Luanna Alzuguir. She guarantees there’s more to come.

“I’m really excited and focused. I haven’t made it to the top in my career; I’m still a brown belt. Now I have to be even more focused to make it to the top. I’m on my way and I’m not where I want to be yet,” she says.

In preparing for the World Pro and probably the Pan, Bia will spend some time in the USA.

“I’ll head to the United States to train with Leticia (Ribeiro). She’s my teacher, knows everything, and she has to continue to show me all the alternatives. That’s how I’m winning everything!”

The prize money for the female division this installment of the World Pro, to take place April in Abu Dhabi, is added incentive.

“It’s really important. Women’s Jiu-Jitsu is growing with every day and the opportunities are arising. There’s a cost to being an athlete and with this prize money it will all be cool,” she says in finishing.

In an article on GRACIEMAG.com, the Gracie Humaita fighter was named among the 10 athletes to watch out for in 2010. Bia has been making our work easy for us!
