ONE FC returns to Singapore Indoor Stadium on Oct. 18 with a fight card headlined by a unification bout for the ONE FC bantamweight world title between Brazil’s Bibiano Fernandes and South Korea’s Soo Chul Kim.
ONE FC’s Victor Cui touted the card as one of the greatest put together in Asian MMA history.
“We will finally settle the question of who deserves to be called the top bantamweight fighter on the planet,” Cui said in a press release. “Plus, the fierce MMA darling of Singapore, Sherilyn Lim, will make her ONE FC debut in front of thousands of screaming home fans. We always step it up a notch in Singapore and Oct. 18 will be no different. We are putting together a fight card that will blow away the millions of passionate fight fans all around the world. Thousands of fans in attendance and the millions watching live around the world are set for another evening of world-class MMA action featuring the best in Asia.”
Fernandes, the former DREAM featherweight champion, DREAM Featherweight Grand Prix winner and current Interim ONE FC bantamweight champion, has not lost a fight in over two years and he made his ONE FC debut in Manila last August when he defeated CFC bantamweight champion Gustavo Falciroli. Fernandes then followed that up with a first round submission win over DEEP champ Yoshiro Maeda.
At “ONE FC: Rise to Power” in May 2013, Fernandes captured the interim ONE FC 135-pound title, which was up for grabs due to Soo Chul Kim being injured, by winning a unanimous decision over Koetsu Okazaki.
Reigning ONE FC bantamweight champ Soo Chul Kim is only 21 years old, but he is already a veteran of 11 MMA fights. He has consistently tested himself and competed in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines. In his last ONE FC outing, Kim defeated Leandro Issa by technical knockout en route to winning the first ever ONE FC title.
