GRACIEMAG.com had a talk with one of the favorites to take the roosterweight gold medal at this year’s World Championship. Caio Terra spoke of his preparations, the tough road ahead and other subjects.
How did your preparations for the Worlds go?
Thank God everything went perfectly! I didn’t get sick or injured, which hasn’t happened to me for a while. The rest is easy. There are a lot of really good black and brown belts here to help me train, like Samir Chantre, Matheus Andre and over the last few weeks Felipe Costa. I have no complaints about training.
What’s your strategy for coming up with the gold medal?
I’m going in really focused and I’ll do everything I’ve been training to do. I’m going to fight each mat as though it were a final.
What do you feel will be your biggest obstacle in becoming champion?
There are a lot of good guys competing, but I believe God’s will will prevail. I did my part, lived and breathed Jiu-Jitsu all day; now it depends on Him.
What do you think of Jiu-Jitsu in the USA?
It’s grown an absurd amount, thanks to MMA and especially the work of the IBJJF has done. I believe soon there will be as many American black belt champions as there are Brazilians. You can see how Jonathan Torres just gets better and better and another promise is that Zack Maxwell, who is destroying everyone at brown belt.
Send a message out to the Jiu-Jitsu community…
I’d like to thank everyone who cheers for me and let everyone know they can watch live on the Budovideos website. Some great battles are coming up. See you then.
