Carlos Condit got his revenge from their first fight, finishing Martin Kampmann in the main event rematch at UFC Fight Night 27 in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Wednesday night.
Condit recovered from early takedowns by his opponent to get the technical knockout at the 0:54 mark of the fourth round of their featured bout.
“I’m excited, man. I’m really happy,” Condit said following the win. “Martin’s a really well-rounded fighter. He can take the fight wherever he wants. We saw that he was going to come out and try to take me down and make it a grappling match. We tried to avoid that and I ended up being able to pick him apart with the strikes.”
Kampmann almost immediately went in for a clinch, working his way to a takedown in the early stages of the first round. Condit briefly got back to the feet, but was put back down by his opponent soon after. Condit secured a reversal, gaining top position and returned to the feet where Kampman continued to utilize the clinch. After bringing the fight back down to the ground , Kampman worked from his opponent’s guard to advance, but found no success and they returned to a standing fight again. A fourth takedown by Kampmann took place just before the end of the opening round.
Kampmann began landing more strikes in the second round, combining that with more body clinches. Condit, however, was able to defend the takedown much better than the previous round, and later landed more significant blows to his opponent while on the feet. High and low striking combinations gave Condit the advantage in the second frame.
After some brief striking exchanges, Kampmann scored his first takedown since the first round, holding Condit down for nearly half a minute before the two returned to the feet. Condit then landed a strike that cut his opponent open on the face, and pressured Kampmann with a number of striking combinations. The fight nearly finished with Condit bringing it to the ground and attempting a rear-naked choke, but Kampann escaped and the round ended soon after.
Shortly after the fourth round began, Condit landed a one-two combination and swarmed on his opponent. He then clinched, landed two knees to the head, forcing Kampmann to fall to the canvas and referee Herb Dean to stop the fight.
Condit said his drive to title contention includes match-ups that he finds interesting, including ones against the two top welterweights in the division.
“There’s a lot of intriguing matches out there in the division,” he said. “Of course I would like to get that title shot back, possibly Johnny Hendricks or Georges St-Pierre, whichever one wins.”
With the win, Condit stops a two fight losing streak and improves his record to 29-7. Kampmann drops to 20-7 and has lost two consecutive fights.

Dos Anjos goes the distance, gets the win over Cerrone
Rafael dos Anjos continued his drive to becoming Brazil’s first UFC lightweight champion, beating Donald Cerrone in the co-main event at UFC Fight Night 27 on Saturday night.
Dos Anjos outlasted Cerrone for the duration of their three-round war, getting the unanimous decision with scores of 29-28 on all three judges’ scorecards.
The Brazilian fighter found success on the feet halfway through the first round, landing a hard punch that dropped Cerrone to the floor. The fight then went the ground where dos Anjos landed strikes from Cerrone’s guard, including short elbows and punches. The match stayed on the ground with dos Anjos finishing out the frame in top position.
Dos Anjos continued to land combinations on the feet in the second round before Cerrone secured a takedown. The American fighter attempted find a position to land strikes, but dos Anjos scrambled and the two returned to the feet a short while later. Dos Anjos got a takedown of his own in the final minute before the fight entered the final five-minute period.
The third round had Cerrone turn on the offense and land more significant strikes, while dos Anjos attempted two takedowns with no success. The fight ended with Cerrone attempting a flying knee as expired.
Dos Anjos improves his overall MMA record to 20-6 and is on a five-fight win streak. In defeat, Cerrone drops his second fight in his last three outings.
Gastelum submits Melancon early
Kelvin Gastelum remained undefeated, finishing Brian Melancon in the first round at in their main card fight at UFC Fight Night 27.
The TUF winner slapped on a rear-naked choke, forcing Melancon to tap at the 2:26 mark of the opening round.
“It feels good, baby,” Gastelum said. “I just wanted to get the finish.”
Gastelum landed a one-two combination, followed by another one-two combination with an uppercut that dropped Melancon. The “Ultimate Fighter” winner than pursued his opponent on the ground and sank in the rear-naked choke for the tapout.
Gastulem keeps his record flawless with his seventh straight win, while Melancon drops to 7-3.
McGee gets the split decision over Whittaker
Court McGee won a close fight with Rober Whittaker in their UFC Fight Night 27 main card fight on Wednesday.
McGee recovered from being bloodied in the first round to earn the split decision, earning scores of 30-27,-27-30 and 29-28.
With the win, McGee improves his record to 16-3 and is on a two-fight win streak. Whittaker loses his first fight in the UFC and drops to 11-3.
