The featherweight division now has a pivotal match-up in the works.
Following four straight finishes, Chad Mendes will face off against a fighter undefeated at 145 pounds, Nik Lentz, at UFC on Fox 9 on Dec. 14 in Sacramento, Calif.
The featherweight bout is currently agreed to, according to a report from BleacherReport.com, and bout agreements are expected to be signed shortly. UFC officials later confirmed the report.
Mendes, a one-time No. 1 contender to the featherweight title, has finished his last four opponents by either knockout or technical knockout. The four wins came immediately following the only defeat in his professional career, a knockout loss to division champ Jose Aldo at UFC 142 in January 2012.
Lentz was last seen earning a unanimous decision over Hacran Dias at UFC on Fox 8 this past May. The win was his third in a row since dropping a weight class from lightweight last year.
UFC on Fox 9 will take place in Sacramento’s Sleep Train Arena and is headlined by a lightweight title bout between new champion Anthony Pettis and Josh Thomson.
