The beast from the Brazilian state of Ceará has been on a roll in the rings of Brazil and Japan. Willamy “Chiquerim” Freire is getting ready to ply his trade in the cage of a big American organization. After successfully defending his Shooto World lightweight belt in Japan last Sunday, the Nova União representative handed over his belt and is now getting ready to move on to greener pasteurs.
“We’re ironing out the final details, which is why I asked you not to reveal the name of the event, as it could hamper the negotiations. But everything’s moving on the right track and I even have a likely date to fight. We’ll release the info at the right time,” he told GRACIEMAG.com.
The fighter was linked with a move to Sengoku, but now his destination is set for the United States.
“I had to give up the belt. Dedé (André Pederneiras) wanted me to hand it over in the ring, over in Japan. While I was there for the fight he told me the procedures of what to do by phone.”

Very content, Chiquerim comments on how the second outing with Yusuke Endo went, opening new opportunities in his career.
“It was a tough fight. It was a tight dispute, but I think I won the three rounds, even though they didn’t give me all of them. Just my having won the decision in Japan goes to show how I really did take an advantage. The guy got tougher and the fight was much more different from what I expected. We fought standing and he tried to take me down. I did good once there, getting the mount and sinking an arm-and-neck choke. I also got a knockdown and it was great,” he says in finishing.
