With his win over Roy Nelson, Junior Cigano will have a shot at the UFC heavyweight belt. At this Saturday’s UFC 117 event in California the fighter notched his sixth win in the promotion, the 12th in his career, with a single loss.
Against Nelson, Cigano needed all three rounds to come up with the W for the first time in the UFC.
“This guy is so tough, it’s unbelievable. I know he trained a lot to be here, but I did too. I’m really happy to win again,” he said while still in the octagon.
Cigano made his entrance to fight alongside friend and master Rodrigo Minotauro, a former champion of the division. Now the 26-year-old fighter’s destiny may hold the very title Minotauro once held.
“This fight game me a title shot. Now I’m going to fight against really tough guys, either Brock Lesnar or Cain Velasquez. But I’m ready,” he warned.
