This Monday at the UFC 141 press conference, Alistair Overeem spoke his mind on everything—doping, Brock Lesnar and even the current champ, Junior Cigano.
“People can say what they want. The thing is, I’m very busy with my career—not just training, it’s a bunch of things, putting together a team, doing all these interviews; I’m always busy,” said the Dutchman nonchalantly. “I simply don’t have time to explain all these allegations [about doping]. It’s usually done over the internet and by people I don’t know, I’ve never met,” added the former Pride FC and K-1 superstar.
On his showdown with Brock Lesnar on the coming 30th, Overeem showed himself to be confident and collected in the lead-up to his UFC debut.
“I don’t see it as pressure. Of course, the UFC is a hundred times bigger than Strikeforce. The UFC is huge and has lots of media attention on it. But the good thing is, the bigger the fight, the greater the attention from the media and public. And the bigger that is, the better for me,” said the Strikeforce champ, before going on to put Cigano’s style under the microscope.
“[Junior] dos Santos and I would have an excellent fight—it would be striker against striker. I feel that with my experience, I’d be the one with my arm raised. But I must say that he is really dangerous. He has knockout power in both hands. Cigano is smart, quick. But I’m anxious to fight him after Brock,” he said in finishing.
Over Twitter, Dana White posted that the Dutch fighter had passed his drugs screening for the fight in Las Vegas: “Overeem is ready. The fight between Lesnar and Overeem is on.” Last week, Overeem obtained a conditional license to fight from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, and he met all the demands. Check out the card:
