José Aldo’s featherweight title defense against Frankie Edgar has finally been rescheduled: speaking on the “UFC Tonight” television show, Dana White confirmed the fight will be going down February 2, 2013 at UFC 156, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Expectations surrounding the Aldo-Edgar showdown began when the former lightweight champion decided to move down a weight class after August of this year. With Erik Koch injuring out of his date with Aldo at UFC Rio, Frankie stepped up to fill in. However, in a game of musical chairs that exasperated the promotion’s president, Dana White, Aldo injured his foot in a motorcycle accident and the fight was postponed. Now the February date is set in stone. Right?
Aldo, a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu from team Nova União, will be defending his belt for the fourth time, and he hasn’t tasted defeat in 14 fights. Now Frankie Edgar is coming off two decision losses to Ben Henderson, to whom he lost his belt.
To Dana White, as stated in USA Today newspaper, “The fight should play out mostly on the feet, since both are high quality strikers.
