Jorjão Rodrigues conquered the WFE Platinum lightweight belt at the eighth installment of the event after Erick Parrudo pulled out of the fight in the second round due to cracked ribs. The fight took place on December 15, 2010. Nine months later, on September 16, time came to put the title on the line for the first time, at the tenth installment, held at the Grand Hotel Stella Maris in the Brazilian city of Salvador.
Next up for Jorjão is the experienced Diego Braga, who is coming off a controversial fight with Luciano Azevedo at the promotion’s ninth show. After three evenly-matched rounds the judges ruled the fight a draw. Prior to that Braga was riding a three-knockout win streak, two of which came in the first round and the third, via high kick, in the second.
Credentials enough for a shot at the title, and sparks are bound to fly. Will it go the whole five rounds? We’ll find out come September 16!
