Gabrielle Garcia was the big winner of the 2011 Jiu-Jitsu World Championship, coming out on top of her weight group and the absolute division. Gabi hasn’t lost since 2009, when she was disqualified in the absolute division at the No-Gi Worlds. Since then she has known only triumph. Recently, the fighter made the most of the excellent phase she’s seeing to pay homage, inking the Alliance Eagle tattoo pictured above on her skin.
“It’s a tribute to Fabio Gurgel. At the Worlds I swore that if I were to win the absolute I’d pay tribute to him and the team. Only I know what Alliance and Fabio mean in my life. He made me a two-time black belt world champion,” she said.
And even the fresh ink on her body could keep Gabi out of training, now she’s been invited to take part in the ADCC coming up September in England.
“I didn’t even stop after getting the tattoo. Thursday I started doing physical conditioning with Coach Edson Ramalho and I started doing No-Gi training too,” she recounted.
Determined to show up at the event full force and conquer a title she’s been missing, Gabi will have some big-time backup.
“We set up a training time focuses solely on No-Gi. On the 15th I’ll fly to New York to train for the ADCC with Marcelo Garcia and Cobrinha. It’ll be awesome!” she said in closing.
