Black belt Caio Terra can be easily called “Mr. Worlds No-Gi”. The roosterweight has competed in each one of the 6 editions of the event, since 2007. With all that presence, results came naturally. Caio is a five-time world no-gi champion. Only in 2007 he was not on the top of the podium, having to settle for a silver medal. Getting ready for another one, next November 2-3, in Long Beach, California, Caio talked a little about why he likes so much to compete at the Worlds No-Gi.

“For me, the Worlds No-Gi is the most important no-gi event there is. All the weight divisions are there and it is organized by the IBJJF. I like to study Jiu-Jitsu a lot, both with the gi and without it. I try to become comfortable in every part of the match, in any position, which creates an advantage for me when I attack or counter-attack.”

Caio also spoke of what the beginners have to pay attention on when venturing in the no-gi universe.

“Gi and no-gi are very different. They look the same but they are practically different sports. A lot of people say that to be good without the gi you have to train with the gi and I think that helps, but it helps in the same amount as a guy who wants to be good with the gi training without the gi. Without the gi you have to gather all the technique details a lot faster otherwise you loose the position. That makes you speed up the development of each position. So, my tip is to study no-gi Jiu-Jitsu as much as you can”.

Finally, Terra talks a bit about his wins at the Worlds No-Gi.

“I’m the only athlete with five titles in a row in the event. I don’t even like to choose one that is special, because all of them have the same value. I enter every event to have fun and to compete with people I didn’t fight yet.”

After this inspiring talk with Caio Terra, hurry and register now to compete at the 2013 Worlds No-Gi. Go to IBJJF.com. The registration deadline is October 25.
