Last weekend, from the 12th to the 14th of November, the São Paulo Federation (FPJJ) offered a true overdose of Jiu-Jitsu. On Friday, at São Paulo Municipal Chamber, a solemn ceremony promoting the entity’s new black belt members was held in honor of Jiu-Jitsu Day (the 15th), and stripes were also given to teachers who were already black belts.
The event overseen by Master Otavio de Almeida Junior was attended by a number of São Paulo’s gentle art authorities, like Grandmaster Osvaldo Carnivalle, Grandmaster Mario Yamasaki, Grandmaster João Rezende, Master Roberto Lage, Master Adilson Souza, and Master Odair Borges, among others. After diplomas were handed out to the teachers, the “Olympic Champion Aurélio Miguel” medal was given to the athletes and teams that stood out in 2010.
On Saturday, at the Paulista Tennis Club, the 2010 Paulista (São Paulo) Championship for beginning athletes was held, with matches from infant to super-senior divisions, with over 600 competitors taking to the mats.
On Sunday at the same gymnasium, it was time for the ranked athletes to compete at the 2010 Paulista Championship without the gi, and the highlight was the “qualifying” finals for the Pan 2011, in the United States, with the aim of sending a true delegation of São Paulo natives with all expenses paid by the Federation.
The ones who qualified at black belt were Bruno Frazatto (Atos, 70kg), Leandro Nascimento (Cícero Costha, 65kg), and Felipe Mattos (Barbosa, over 85kg).
