Back in the UFC after a good run at Strikeforce, Dan Henderson will be headlining UFC 139 opposite Maurício “Shogun” Rua in San Jose, California.
Finally popular with fans in his home country, unlike back in the days when he made his name in Japan, Hendo is sure the matchup will bring back fond memories for those who followed his and Shogun’s careers when the two were at the top of the MMA heap at the other end of the world..
“This is the fight Pride fans were waiting for. Shogun is a tough opponent and I’m really excited about it. Fans can expect an explosive fight,” said the veteran.
UFC president Dana White recognizes the fight’s significance, too.
“The light heavyweight division is possibly the toughest one in the UFC, and Henderson and Shogun are fighting to prove they deserve a shot at the title. Both have unbelievable potential and I expect a great fight,” he said.
