Attended by Grandmaster red belt Francisco Mansur and competitors from 30 schools in New York and neighboring states, Long Island Pride settled into its new venue of York College and held its ninth installment. Among the standouts at the event was black belt and former UFC star Hermes França, who won his superfight with Joe Scarola.
Hermes made it clear that, despite having retired from the UFC, he is still in shape. A takedown early on put him ahead on the scorecards. Both parties had good chances at winning in the match, with Hermes proving the more effective in his attacks and imposing his pace. After six minutes and winning on points, Hermes França began his jubilation and received his gold medal from the hands of Grandmaster Mansur.
Promoted by Milton Regis and Eloy Santos, with the support of GRACIEMAG, Monkey Grip World and sponsorship from the US Army and Keiko Sports, the event will follow up with another installment on September 12 at the same location.
