Ronaldo “Jacaré” Souza returned to the Strikeforce silver cage this Saturday, March 3. The Jiu-Jitsu black belt, a two time absolute world champion admired by gentle-art fans the world over, had previously told GRACIEMAG.com (remember here) that he needed to put his Jiu-Jitsu to the test and prove he still had it. In Columbus, Ohio, Jaca went one further. With crisp striking and a stalwart ground game, he got the better of Bristol Marunde until tapping him out with an arm-and-neck choke in round three.
“This comes down to the work our team did at X-Gym in Rio de Janeiro. The best in the world train there, so I learn plenty; if I don’t learn from the best then I can’t do anything. I’d just change professions,” he told Showtime.
The confident former Strikeforce middleweight champion expressed his desire to recapture the belt, preferably against Luke Rockhold, the last man to beat him.
“I’m hungry to fight. If it’s against Luke Rockhold, better still. I’m dyin for this fight to happen,” he said in closing.
