In an interview with Bill Reiter for the Fox website this Monday evening, Dana White gave the first official confirmation of a fight on the card for UFC 142, to take place January 14, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro.
Featherweight champion José Aldo will be looking for the 20th victory in his 21-fight career. But hanging on to his belt will be no walk in the park. The Amazonas-state native will square off with the acrobatic and undefeated Chad Mendes (11 wins, two by choke and two by knockout). Aldo himself hasn’t tasted defeat in five years.
José Aldo and Chad Mendes have been on an inevitable collision course ever since UFC 129, when the Brazilian successfully defended his title against Mark Hominick in Toronto. After the fight, Aldo had to cure up a shoulder injury and Chad ended up facing Rani Yahya.
