About Instituto Kapacidade
In 2007, Kyra Gracie, her uncle Ryan and other family members visited Família Santa Clara for a social benefit effort. It was on that trip that Kyra came up with the idea of teaching the children residing in the area. The very next year, after Kyra returned to Brazil and her uncle died, the five-time world champ decided it was time to turn her dream into reality and share everything the sport has provided her. Her wishes coincided with those of her friend Bruno Neves, a businessman who was always involved in outreach programs. Neves was already familiar with Familia Santa Clara and was determined to launch a project to effectively help the families.
Thus, in 2010, Instituto Kapacidade was born. The NGO is a means for teaching the gentle art as a tool for social inclusion. At first there were only 30 students in the program, and today 150 children are attended to. Through the sport, underprivileged youths benefit from efforts for educating, capacity building and bolstering self-esteem. Beyond producing champions of the sport, Kyra and Bruno aim to produce champions in life.
