In Jiu-Jitsu, specifically the technical part, there’s no mystery to it: plenty of training and repetitions.
However, anyone who thinks that to really get good he has to focus only on the more advanced techniques, is sorely mistaken. The fundamentals are what provide great fighters their foundation, and basic moves, practiced extensively, make all the difference.
