Soon after news broke that he verbally agreed to fight Gray Maynard in a rubber match, Nate Diaz has apparently had a change of heart.
On Sunday night, Diaz tweeted that he wants a crack at new UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. Diaz’s wording of the desire to fight Pettis was what one would expect from the brash Diaz.
“Nah F— that I’m fightin Pettis,” the fighter wrote on his Twitter page.
UFC officials announced earlier on Sunday that Diaz would fight Maynard in a trilogy fight at the TUF 18 Finale on Nov. 30. Diaz, though, apparently has other things in mind and wants to fight for the title again.
A former No. 1 contender, Diaz last competed at UFC on Fox 7 where he suffered the first TKO loss of his career in a bout against former Strikeforce standout Josh Thomson. The fight represented his second consecutive loss, the first being a failed attempt at the UFC title against then-champion Benson Henderson.
UFC brass is yet to comment on the Diaz tweet, but chances that he gets a title shot now after dropping two straight fights are slim to none.
