The Nat Holman Gymnasium at City College hosted some of the top Jiu-Jitsu competitors in the United States, as they took to competition at the IBJJF New York Open this Saturday. The highlight of the event was Gracie Barra’s Otávio Sousa, who won the middleweight and absolute divisions by beating, respectively, Clark Gracie and Rafael Formiga, the absolute champion from the previous year.
Further standouts were GFTeam duo Denílson Pimenta and Ítalo Lins, winners of the featherweight and lightweight divisions, respectively. Daniel Beleza took gold in the light featherweight division. Further champions of the adult black belt divisions were medium heavyweight champ Antonio Antonioli, heavyweight gold medalist Alexandre Henrique, super heavyweight winner Diego Pereira de Santana and ultra heavyweight kingpin Paulo Victor Velozo.
In the overall team standings, Alliance took top spot, followed by Lloyd Irvin and Renzo Gracie.
