Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger will meet in a pivotal welterweight match-up at UFC on Fox 8 in Seattle, according to a report on Wednesday.
The Province Keyboard Kimura blog posted that the two will meet at the event, which is held at Seattle’s Key Arena on July 27.
MacDonald (14-1) was scheduled to meet Carlos Condit at UFC 158, but an injury forced the Canadian out of the fight. Condit instead fought Johny Hendricks, and now it seems MacDonald gets his chance at moving up the welterweight ladder with Ellenberger looking to do the same.
Ellenberger (29-6) last competed on the same card MacDonald was forced to withdraw from, earning a first-round knockout over former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nate Marquardt. “The Juggernaut” has won eight of his last nine fights, and is currently on a two-fight win streak.
The UFC has not confirmed where the fight will land on the card, but the bout will likely be part of the televised main card.
The MacDonald-Ellenberger match-up is one of two fights currently scheduled for UFC on Fox 8, with lightweights Mac Danzig and Melvin Guillard recently agreeing to face each other on the card.
No main event for the Fox card has been announced at this time.
