Otávio Sousa is the big winner of the 2013 Las Vegas Spring International Open.
The competitor from Gracie Barra won both the middleweight and the open class.
In the final of the absolute, he defeated Yuri Simões, 2-0, with a sweep in the end.
“I am competing in the Opens to be in rhythm at the 2013 Worlds, when I want to defend my middleweight title,” he said.
About the gold medal match with Yuri, Otávio said, “He is such a tough competitor and on top of that I was hungry all day because I didn’t eat in the morning because of the weight limit for the middleweight.”
Before the final, Otávio finished Renan Borges (choke) and Osvaldo Moizinho (armbar) with two attacks from the closed guard.
He commented on his effectiveness on that position: “I was so happy that the moves worked just like I showed in the GRACIEMAG webinar, last week.”
In the female absolute, the champion was Mackenzie Dern, who beat Renata Pimentel with a toehold in the only fight of the division.
