João Gabriel Rocha next to double champion Formiga.
The 2018 World Master Championship began Wednesday — the first of four days of competition featuring the world’s strongest veterans of BJJ. And already we have two double champions crowned in Las Vegas.
In the men’s master 1 age group, Soul Fighters’ Rafael Formiga had an astounding performance. First he beat the 59-strong field of the middleweight division. After five matches, including the final against Fabio Pulita (Alliance), Formiga had secured the gold medal. Then he went into the absolute and won that title by beating Vitor Schlosser (Schlosser BJJ).
Gold huntress Cláudia do Val (De La Riva) was also there doing her usual thing. Having won medium heavyweight gold with a swift triangle used against Katharine Lantz, Claudinha defeated Fabiana Borges (Gracie Barra) to take down the open division as well.
