After his debut was twice postponed due to injuries, Ronys Torres is now in the United States, where he will finally get his shot in the UFC octagon. This Saturday in Las Vegas the Jiu-Jitsu black belt will face Melvin Guillard. And if some feel just having to fight someone with 41 wins on his record is a challenge enough, Ronys has a different account of who his main opponent is.
“Fight time is the easiest. I’m going through the most difficult time right now, which is to lose weight. I’ve lost 11kg (24lbs) so far and have just seven more to go. It will be alright, ” the fighter told GRACIEMAG.com.
Ronys drops 18 kg (40 lbs) to make the lightweight division (70 kg). An exhausting task. On the day of weighing in, he hopes he’ll need to lose just 3 kg. The fighter says that, after the sacrifice of weighing in, he is able to recover up to 12 kg before fighting.
“There’s no way around it. I try to keep light, but after my fight is out of the way I can’t help it, I eat a lot,” he says, explaining the cause of his predicament.
Aside from the work left to do in shedding weight, everything else he needs for his UFC debut to go through smoothly has been done. .
“I’ve done everything I need to. My head’s in the right place and I’m chill. I’ll do my best and come back with the win. God willing, everything will be OK, “he concludes.
