On announcing that the Mauricio Shogun-Dan Henderson matchup has been promoted to being the UFC 139 main event after Vitor Belfort pulled out to injury (replaced by Wanderlei Silva to face Cung Le), UFC president Dana White let slip that the winner of the light heavyweight tilt will be a good deal closer to the divisional title now held by Jon Jones.
First in line, however, is Rashad Evans, who will be in the arena to watch Jones defend his title against Quinton Rampage Jackson this Saturday at UFC 135.
Queried about how negotiations went in bringing Henderson back to the UFC after his abrupt move to strikeforce, White didn’t have any wrangling to reveal. “It all went smoothly. He wanted to fight in the UFC.”
