On an eight-fight win streak – seven in the first round and one in the second –, Glover Teixeira is one of the most dreaded light heavyweight fighters in Brazil. Hence the difficulty in finding opponents to match against him. At this coming Saturday’s Bitetti Combat 8 event in São Paulo, Glover will face Daniel Tabera (16w-4l-3d), a fighter with experience in events like Bellator and M-1 and who has faced opponents of the caliber of Gilbert Yvel and Ricco Rodriguez.
“Glover would have faced Holland’s Hans Stringer. Everything was on track but, when we sent the plane ticket last week, Stringer refused. The contract is valid only in Brazil, to guarantee his rights in regards to the event, but there is no way to hold him to it in Holland. But it’s no problem, as we had Tabera on standby, and he’s trained and ready for Glover,” says event promoter Amaury Bitetti.
“We tried a number of opponents and, when they would find out it would be against Glover, all of them declined. There’s the question for the upcoming events: who will face Glover?” adds co-organizer Fernando Chacur.
Glover will headline the show, which also counts MMA fighters like Paulo Filho, Yuki Sassaki, Cristiano Marcello, Thiago Jambo, and Eiji Ishikaua, among others.
The one-hundred-years-of-Corinthians-football club-tribute event is selling tickets in the stands for R$ 20 and R$ 60 in VIP seating. The points of purchase have yet to be announced.
