Jiu-Jitsu invaded Toronto, Canada’s Etobicoke Olympium Gym last Saturday, when the IBJJF Toronto Open unfolded and the old adage “an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth” was put to practice in the contest area.
While Jonatas Novaes (Brasa) outdid Oliver Geddes (Gracie Barra) in the medium heavyweight final, the Englishman dished out comeuppance in the absolute. The Roger Gracie pupil, a half-guard buff, was swift in making it to his favorite position. There, he calmly and patiently worked from the bottom without despairing, even when Jonatas made it to side-control. The black belt replaced half-guard and then attacked with a straight footlock, only letting go once the Brazilian had tapped out in desistence. Watch the match below:
Also in the black belt contest, but in the master age group, Jorge Britto took first in the middleweight division. In the overall team contest, Toronto BJJ took first, followed by Mendes Bros and then Renzo Gracie.
