A finalist from the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil reality show, Godofredo “Pepey” Castro came up short in the featherweight finale, held in June 2012 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Seven months later, the Jiu-Jitsu black belt wants another chance to show what he’s made out of, this time at UFC on FX &. At the big Jan. 19 event, Pepey will have his work cut out for him against Brazilian Top Team standout Milton Vieira.
He said he’s ready, though, and explained why.
“Let’s put it this way: [I’m] bullet-proof for this fight,” Castro told GRACIEMAG.com. “Whatever my opponent throws at me I’ll pay back in kind. I really want the fans from Ceará on my side. I really want to make noise back home in Fortaleza, my city.”
The featherweight’s training has been no walk in the park. He spent some time in the city of Curitiba polishing up his standup game alongside Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, André “Dida” Amado and Francisco “Massaranduba.”
Pepey said that his training varied in preparation for this fight
“I’m training in everything here. I’ve trained a lot in wrestling and striking, even new techniques, not to mention Jiu-Jitsu and physical conditioning, which is off the hook,” he said. “When the time comes, though, what I really want to put to use is my Jiu-Jitsu. My dream is to have UFC São Paulo be the start of a long tenure in the organization.”
