This year, Tayane Porfírio became a two-time absolute champion of the SJJIF World Jiu-Jitsu Championship. Having shone in 2017 with double gold, the Alliance fighter came back as hungry as ever.
It wasn’t an easy path ahead of her either. Tayane beat Talita Treta and Nathalie Ribeiro in order to grab a spot in the absolute final, opposite Nathiely de Jesus. This proved an evenly matched fight, with chances for both sides. Tayane scored first with a guard pass, but Nathiely reacted with a sweep in the second half. On top, Nathiely tried to work towards getting ahead on the scoreboard, but Tayane moved competently from the guard to contain her opponent and hold the 3-2 advantage.
