Rousey to coach TUF opposite Tate or Zingano
UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will be the next coach of the The Ultimate Fighter, when the series enters its 18th season later this year, according to UFC president Dana White.
The UFC boss announced the news during the UFC 158 Pay-Per-View broadcast, which coincidentally made Joe Rogan do consecutive odd facial expressions that the MMA world enjoyed through laughter. Seriously, he looked like he had stomach issues that were making him uneasy. If we could post the video, we would. But that’s a no-no in terms of copyrights and all that legal junk.
Anyway, Rousey will coach against the winner of the Miesha Tate-Cat Zingano match-up. The contestants on the show will be made up of 135-pound men and women. A move that Rogan told White was “cats and dogs.”
Uh-oh, Nick Diaz had a run-in with the cops last night
Don’t be scared, homie! He wasn’t arrested or anything, but this picture of him sitting on the curb next to a patrol car with its lights on was quite the tidbit.
According to TMZ.com, Diaz tweeted the picture last night with the caption “F**k they got us.” We don’t know if it was Diaz’s better sense to take down the tweet/photo or it was a the mighty UFC public relations machine yelling at him to put it down, but it’s no longer posted anywhere … other than this site and every other MMA website on the planet.
Our good buddy Damon Martin at BR ended up talking to the police Sergent overseeing the stopping of Diaz’s vehicle. Diaz was a passenger, and the driver (someone with outstanding warrants) was driving on the wrong side of the road (like they were in Europe or something). Additionally, another passenger had concentrated cannabis in their possession. Both the driver and cannabis-possessing passenger were detained.
Would somebody just give Johny Hendricks his title shot already?!
If you missed UFC 158, you didn’t catch welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre dominating Nick Diaz for the better part of five rounds. You then also missed Johny Hendricks further solidifying himself as the No. 1 contender to GSP’s crown with a win over Carlos Condit.
Both those things happened, and now there’s nothing left but to make GSP vs. Hendricks for some time later this year. Or is there?
Internet chatter showed that many people are still talking about a GSP-Anderson Silva super-match, more so it seems than they did when St-Pierre beat up Condit.
Not sure if anyone’s noticed lately, but Hendricks has taken out a bunch of top 170-pounders in the last few fights. By reasonable logic, he should get the next shot (duh). But in a world where we have Chael Sonnen earning a fight with Jon Jones for the light heavyweight title by talking his way into it, anything’s possible. Hooray sports entertainment!
