This Sunday, day two of the WPJJC Trials in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro state, the action in the black belt division went according to politesse: ladies first.
And a new champion was crowned. Nádia Melo of GFTeam shone bring in under-63 kg action at Caio Martins Gymnasium, and she now goes through to Abu Dhabi with all expenses paid. Nádia, who yesterday sent Bia Mesquita off with a kneebar, today caught Bruna Marques of Barbosa team by the neck and tapped out Hellen Bastos of Game Fight with an armbar in the gold-medal-deciding match.
In the over-63 kg division there were no surprises. Gabrielle Garcia of Alliance had two matches on Sunday and got the tapout in both of them. The absolute world champion got the takedown, passed guard and finished, as she tends to do. In Gabi’s first match she used an americana keylock, and in the final she won via choke from the mount.
Next up are the boys. Rodolfo Vieira, Braga Neto, Igor Silva, Theodoro Canal, Paulo Miyao and Gabriel Willcox are in the semifinals, as you can see in the following list:
